Facebook
I've deactivated my Facebook account after less than two weeks of
using it. I'm disappointed that it's deactivated and not removed.

You can just set your privacy settings so tight that no one can find you... then it's as good as removed?

You're right and I know I'm over-reacting. I have a weird
unreasonable antagonism towards social networking sites. I just can't
help but distrust the companies behind these sites. I think they are
gathering a lot of information about people and there doesn't seem to
be anything anyone can do to control how they use that information.
This kind of paranoia is unusual for me, but it's been irking me so I
finally decided to deactivate my account.

The sad part is that by stepping away from Facebook I'm stepping out
of a circle of information that many of my friends contribute to. For
months Jenn has been saying things like, "Oh, such and such is having
a party" or "So and so are getting married!" and I'm always like,
"Where did you discover that?". "Facebook".

I probably eventually get over my antagonism/decide that I don't care
about privacy and reinstate my account.

Hey, as long as only one of you doesn't care, both parties can still reap the benefits.
